Sketchbook

Summer 2012.

I was looking for skin tones against the lush, vibrant reds.

This sketch is another original piece I designed for the Baron Samedi mural. It’s more figurative rather than doing a literal interpretation of the Baron himself. It is totally different from the other murals in the space, but my clients want it to be very distinctive, and so it is.

mermaid

June 23, 2013

This siren of the sea is the preliminary for a new mural I’m starting today. It will be a nice change of subject matter. She is also the first original composition of mine for this particular client. I’m really excited!

fan

What started out as a simple homage to japanese prints/textiles turned crafty after adding a little glue and some chopsticks.

warrior

Feb. 23, 2013

This was part of a series of sketches i did for the King of Cats campaign. The idea of the jaguar being a symbol of power through every age. The ultimate trophy for an ancient warrior.

toytotem

Jan. 17, 2013

The toy totem was concieved after I’d seen one  at The UM Lowe Museum’s Native American exhibit. It made me think of all the significant pop culture icons of the last century. As totems are usually significant family members and their contributions to tribal life. It was a fun spin on it!

Dec. 28, 2012

Its been an amazing season for me!! My life has been a whirlwind of weddings, openings, fairs, parties, and hard work. I finally got a chance to catch my breath. I can’t help feeling that everything is as it should be and being pleased. I am so blessed and lucky to be alive right here, right now.

sunflower

This sunflower represents the blooming of my inner being.  Its so alive with the perfect compliments!

Oct. 11 ,2012

I always wonder what goes through a cat’s head while they sit and stare for such long periods of time. Its great for live drawing. But it  leaves quite a bit to the imagination of the observer.

Sept. 6, 2012

Simple abstraction by repeating design elements.

Aug. 31, 2012.

This was drawn from an actual chess piece from the Harry Potter chess set. I love the series for all its peculiar creatures and oddities. The Queen is one of my absolute faves because she is beautiful and terrible all at the same time!

July 23, 2012.

I love working with pastels! It makes the light pour onto objects like honey. The colors melt beautifully into one another.

July 9, 2012.

This is a value study. Live drawing is a great way to keep things fresh.

June 18, 2012

This was one of the first experiments I did with red inks. Then I added paint pen to flesh out the tones, and topped it off with a sharpie. Intense!

May 2, 2012.

Collage is a great way for me to stay fresh in terms of composition, contrast, and playing around with juxtaposition. Its a tool that inspires a really graphic technique in my work.
